The Steyr Type 1500 A/01 was manufactured in Austria and was one of the 1.5 ton vehicle types.  The distinctive features were the front engine guard and the rounded engine hood.  The Steyr 3.5 liter V8 air cooled engine produced 85 HP, sustaining a top speed of 100 KM/H.  The transmission was based on 4 speed forward and 1 reverse on the four-wheel drive system.  There were some models which differed in spare wheel location according to the production period.  It was preferred by officers because of a variety of usage such as a staff car in line, a tow car and an ambulance.

From 1935 to 1943 , German weapons and vehicles were painted German gray (or Dark Yellow when used in Africa).  From 1943 onwards, they came from the factory in Dark Yellow only.  A camouflage of red brown and dark green was applied by some units after receiving them; however, there was no fixed rule as to a specific camouflage pattern.

This vehicle depicts a vehicle from the 90th Light Division "Kampfgruppe von der Heydte" 1942.
